Why you should book a working staycation this year
It was 2019 and I was preparing to make a major career change.
I had somewhat of an idea of what I needed to accomplish in order to gain clarity on my next steps but was in desperate need of dedicated deep work time to see it through to completion.
That summer I booked a gorgeous Airbnb in Fayetteville, Arkansas and I built out the basics for The Mary Siems / Source Brokers business model. In just one long weekend I knocked out a website build, brand design, services & my price sheet. I got hooked on the feeling of undivided work time and accomplished so much more than I thought possible. This year marked the start of my annual working staycation.
My friend Hannah calls this idea the Bring Your Thing weekend and she’s planned out several retreats for women in Oklahoma City to attend. (Follow The Treasury if you want to learn more!). She handles all of the details and you just show up to the perfect environment to work on that one thing that you never find the time to do in your daily life. It’s dedicated deep work time where you have no choice, but productivity.
My ideal working staycation will always include lots of good coffee, healthy snacks, comfy clothes, and a peaceful and aesthetically pleasing environment to ensure a productive mindset. The most important element is going somewhere that is outside of your norm so you don’t fall into the habit of doing your day-to-day work (close down that email for just a day or two!).
This year, the retreat was just five minutes from our house at the Classen Hills Suite in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Classen Hills is a luxury urban retreat located in the heart of Oklahoma City. The private apartment is tucked away above the garage of a unique art deco home just a short walk to the Plaza District. The private entrance leads the way to stunning downtown views, a private patio, and a spiral staircase up to the rooftop or down to the pool, hot tub, and chimenea. The space was equipped with high-end finishes, luxurious linens, and well-appointed furnishings. Aimee Struble + 180 Development were the perfect hosts. She even pre-stocked the fridge with snacks, breakfast, my favorite creamer, and a bottle of wine. All of the details were well thought out and the space was absolute perfection for our 2023 business planning.
2022 Working Staycation Achievements included updating my personal website and content strategy to ensure my messaging matches my big-picture goals. Reviewing 2023 family and household plans/projects and setting goals for 2023.
Here's where I'll be spending my focus for 2023:
1. Consulting with Realtors who are at their ceiling of achievement and who need focus, systems, and models to get to the next level.
2. Sharing resources for new Realtors to help you grow a super profitable real estate business.
3. Streamlining my real estate investment strategy.
4. Creating original content that is actually fun and helpful for my website + socials (starting now!)
