The 5+2 Real Estate Books To Read This Year

The habits you form in your first year could be the most important determining factor in setting up your entire career for long-term success.

That is why we have put together a tailored list of great real estate books to help jumpstart your success!

At Keller Williams, we don’t want you to be another statistic. We want you to be another success story. Not only that, but we want to help you achieve long-term growth and success.

With that being said, here are the 5 + 2 books that you should pick up at your local neighborhood amazon.com store and start reading asap. The best investment you can make is to invest in yourself. So why not start with a few great books!

So, what’s the deal with this 5 + 2? Well, the first 5 books pertain to real estate sales and helping you be successful as an agent. The other two book recommendations are about real estate investing. Remember, at KW we care about you creating a life by design. That means you learn how to build your wealth through real estate as well as your real estate business!

Alright, let’s get into it:

#1 The Millionaire Real Estate Agent

(Gary Keller)

We have recommended this book to you before, and you’ll hear us recommend it again (for good reason). This is the best-selling book for real estate agents ever written.

It book serves as a step-by-step guide on how to build a real estate business.

This book covers topics like the 3 L’s of real estate: Leads, Listings, and Leverage. It covers why they are important and how to master them!

The book also covers different forms of marketing, how and when to hire people to work for you, and models to follow for each of these key topics. This book was written by interviewing actual millionaire real estate agents, finding what commonly worked, and creating models from their successes.

This is THE #1 bestselling book ever written for real estate sales and it was written by the co-founder of Keller Williams Gary Keller. Inside of KW, we don’t just recommend this book, we also have designed entire courses based on the principles it covers to give you the models, systems, and tools to create a great real estate business.

Our recommendation is to read it, read it again, and then continue to reread it year after year!

#2 7L: The Seven Levels of Communication: Go From Relationships to Referrals

(Michael J. Maher)

Everybody dreams of building a strong referral-based business, right? Imagine creating such raving fans that they are continually seeking you out and referring you to help someone buy or sell a house.

At the beginning (i.e. year 1) of your real estate career, your client base is as big as the number 0. Most, if not all, of your sales, will come from you actively prospecting rather than from referrals.

BUT, if you set things up right from the start, you can come to a place where you build up a sizable database of happy past clients and a sphere of influence that knows, likes, and trusts you. If you know what to do with those people, you’ll likely see incredible results come from referrals.

And that’s what this book teaches you how to do. It’s a great and easy read because he wrote it in story form. Through the book, you follow the life of a frustrated realtor trying to build his business. One day he meets a lady who takes him to a conference that changes everything…

#3 The Miracle Morning For Real Estate Agents (Hal Elrod & Michael J. Maher)

Have you ever heard of the original miracle morning? Well, this is the new version written specifically for YOU, the newly minted real estate agent.

This time Hal Elrod, author of the original Miracle Morning, teams up with Michael J. Maher, who coincidentally, wrote the 7L book we just talked about. This book is also written in story form. The best part is, that it has the same main characters from the 7L book and continues where the previous book left off.

This book talks about the S.A.V.E.R.S. morning routine. This includes:

  • Silence

  • Affirmations

  • Visualization

  • Exercise

  • Reading

  • Scribing

And how to better apply that to the busy life of a real estate agent.

We have found that if you win your morning, you will win your day!

#4 The ONE Thing (Gary Keller)

Ok, confession, this isn’t really a real estate book per se, however, the simple lesson contained in this powerful book directly applies to you, the real estate agent.

Here’s the truth: there are so many things you COULD do as an agent and most of them look great. But there are really only a handful of activities that you SHOULD be doing and spending 80% of your time on.

The ONE Thing book helps you narrow your focus so you get more done by doing less (sounds great, right?). The point is that you spend more time doing things that matter and less time on things that don’t. The key is figuring out which is which.

#5 The Go Giver Sells More (Bob Burg & John David Mann)

The next book is an amazing sales-specific read and in that way, it does apply to you. This book confirms what you knew all along. Successful people, whether it’s in sales or anything else, focus on giving rather than taking.

The Go Giver Sells More will teach you how to apply a giving philosophy to be successful in sales.

Ok, part 2 – Investing books:

#1 The Millionaire Real Estate Investor (Gary Keller)

Wow, is this the 3rd Gary Keller book on this list? That guy must know what he’s talking about…

This book is in a similar format to the Millionaire Real Estate Agent book. It takes you on a step-by-step journey from starting with 0 properties and working your way up to having an investing business that nets you $1M.

Once again, this book is not a bunch of theory and advice that sounds like it would work. The information came from interviewing successful millionaire real estate investors across the country and seeing what they did. So you know it works!

#2 HOLD: How to Find, Buy and Rent Houses to Build Wealth (Steve Chader, Jennice Doty, Jim and Linda McKissack)

We love this book because it’s a simple approach to building long-term wealth one house at a time.

This book is a straightforward, no-nonsense guide for the investor that anyone can understand. There are no fancy $0 down strategies or anything else that could get you into trouble.

If you are looking at building long-term wealth for you and your family through owning properties, then this is definitely a book you’ll want to read.

You can purchase HOLD on Amazon here.

So there you have it. These real estate-specific books are some of the best ones you can read to help you on your journey. That should provide you with a great reading list for your first 12 months in real estate!

So pick one up, read it, and apply it. Remember, knowledge does not equal power, it is only the POTENTIAL for power. It is up to you to apply what you learn to build a better business for yourself and your future.

As always, we are excited for you to take this knowledge and apply it to your real estate career at Keller Williams.

Happy reading!
